Building your own gaming PC is incredibly rewarding, and it’s a straightforward process that doesn’t require hard technical knowledge to figure out the connections or setup of building one either. In fact, building your own PC can turn out cheaper than actually buying a unit on the market, and you’re also in control of customizing the PC to your desired standards. Here’s a list of what you need to build a gaming PC and steps on how to build it.

Adequate workspace (no carpet)

Processor (CPU) (Preferably Intel Core i5 6600)

CPU Cooler

Motherboard (MSI H110M)

PC Case

Graphics Card (Nvidia GTX 1070 or 1080)

SSD Card

Power Supply

Step 1: The first step involves opening up the case as this is where all the other computer parts are stored in. Once opened, you’ll notice a few cables inside. Save these for later as they’ll be used to connect to your motherboard. Just unscrew the 4 screws to open the side panels and you’re on to the next step.

Step 2: Installing the heart of the unit, a power supply, is an essential step. Preferably select power supplies with ratings of 80+ as this proves to be decent in quality. Choosing a non-modular power supply also comes off cheaper and it’s also important to remember installing the fan facing upward or downward. To get your supply power in place, just screw the 4 screws along the 4 holes found on your PC case.

Step 3: Set your PC case aside and turn towards your motherboard. The motherboard can come in different sizes so it’s important to look into the size of your PC case and assure that the motherboard aligns with the size.

Step 4: Installing the processor and cooler is a delicate piece so it’s best to treat these parts with caution. Grab your processor strictly by the sides and look for the tony gold arrow at the bottom of your processor to match this into your CPU socket. First, open up the CPU socket and gently place the processor in. Second, take your cooler and be sure not to touch the bottom part as well as this contains thermal paste needed for the installation.  Locate the 4 notches on your motherboard, which are framed in the same area as your CPU socket. Once in place, push the cooler down until you hear a click.

Step 5: Plug the fan into a white notch found in your motherboard. This step will only go one-way since only one notch corresponds to your fan plug.

Step 6: In any gaming pc, using a DDR4 RAM corresponds to a DDR4 motherboard, so be sure the specifications between the two are equal. 2/3 of the way down through the RAM is a notch that corresponds to a matching notch in the motherboard, which you line up and press down firmly until you hear a click.

Step 7: Take your I/O shield and fit this into a rectangular slot found at the back of your PC case.

Step 8: Take the standoffs found together in your motherboard and mount them on the computer case on the right locations using just your fingers.

Step 9:  Remove the eye covers of your PC case. Take your motherboard and line this up with the standoffs you mounted in the previous step. You’ll find 6 screw holes, which you will use to screw the motherboard in place.

Step 10: Installing your SSD card can create a challenge in the overall performance of a gaming pc if poorly installed. Screw the SSD card on the hard drive bay on its respective mounting points and make sure the connectors found in your SSD card are facing backward towards the back of the PC case.

Step 11: Once you’ve finished installing the hardware components of your gaming PC, grab the manual found together in your motherboard package as this will serve as guidelines & an orientation to connecting the cables found on your PC case and motherboard unit.

Step 12: Finally, locate the long slot closest to the CPU socket and align this with the graphic card slot where you can push into place. After positioning your graphics card, screw it in to lock it in place. Before anything, test the system by also purchasing the bare essentials needed such as monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Hit the power button and test your computer whether the system successfully boots. If an error occurs, make sure every hardware component is in place and review the wirings as well. Eventually, you’ll have a working gaming PC custom built to your standards.
